Monrovia – WASH Commission Concludes First Annual Retreat in Lower Margibi County, Sets Bold Strategic Goals for 2025
The National Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Commission has officially concluded its first Annual Retreat, held in Lower Margibi County. The three-day event, aimed at strengthening the institution’s operational framework, focused on key priorities, including the Annual Work Plan, Human Resource Policy, and Asset Management Control, aligning its strategies with Liberia’s National Development Plan.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Monday, WASH Commission CEO George WK Yarngo emphasized the retreat’s importance in aligning the Commission’s initiatives with national development goals. He highlighted the need for a collaborative work environment to improve service delivery for the Liberian people.
The retreat brought together senior management and staff for interactive workshops, panel discussions, and presentations designed to enhance policy implementation, operational efficiency, and service delivery standards.
A significant highlight was the participation of Mr. Alfred Drosaye, Principal Administrative Officer at the Civil Service Agency (CSA), who facilitated discussions on the Human Resource Policy and the adoption of the Commission’s organogram. Mr. Drosaye commended the leadership of Hon. George WK Yarngo for the remarkable progress made during his short tenure. He urged employees to foster respect and unity to achieve the institution’s goals.

During the closing ceremony on Wednesday, CEO Yarngo encouraged staff to remain proactive and united as the Commission strives for tangible results in 2025. “This is a time for action and teamwork,” Yarngo said. “Together, we can fulfill our mandate and ensure meaningful impact in the lives of Liberians.”
The retreat also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration, with Yarngo highlighting partnerships with the Civil Service Agency (CSA), the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning as vital to achieving its objectives.
As Liberia’s lead agency in the water and sanitation sector, the WASH Commission remains focused on enhancing public health, environmental sustainability, and economic growth. The outcomes of the retreat reflect a renewed commitment to delivering impactful and sustainable services in alignment with national development priorities.
